The Fire Prevention Division's main objective is to reduce the risk of fire thus protecting the lives, welfare, and economic vitality of our community. We do this by providing a variety of services such as public fire safety education, investigation of fires, plan checking of new construction and tenant improvement projects, issuing permits for various operations involving fire safety, and enforcement of California Fire Code regulations.
The Fire Prevention Division is composed of highly trained and dedicated professionals consisting of:
1 Administrative Assistant
3 Fire Prevention Inspectors
1 Deputy Fire Marshal
1 Fire Marshal
We provide a wide range of fire prevention services in the City of Modesto.
We are located at the government administration center ("10th Street Place") located at 1010 10th Street on the 3rd floor. Our offices are conveniently located with City of Modesto and Stanislaus County departments dealing with planning, zoning, and building inspection.
A Deputy Fire Marshal reviews plans and specifications to ensure compliance with the fire protection and life-safety provisions of the Codes adopted at State and Local level. To streamline the plan review process and provide a one-stop shop, this position is located on the third floor of the City County Administration Building at 1010 10th Street.
An important part of fire prevention is record keeping. Keeping records and files on all uses regulated by the California Fire Code provides the fire official with information on what, where, how or when specific hazards are installed, stored or used.
The permit process assists Modesto Fire Department personnel in regulating occupancies that store or use hazardous materials.
